We have been away a while and can you blame us. Between filming and this unbelievable weather here in sunny London you’d be insane wanting to read post after post. Having said that, we are not gone and we still have a back log of interesting bits and bobs we’ve come across to show you.
Since we think we’ve been in paradise these last few days, I think this post should be set free first.
No, this isn’t a new video and I know I am a bit behind but come on. It’s a great song. You love this video too. I know you do. You know you do. Forgive and forget. Our relationship just went up a notch. High five!
I am aware that there a more than a handful of people who would, let’s say, not agree with me and would so far as to say that they are a bland band. But this song I will not take such crap! Especially since this song is so good they made it twice. Yes! ‘Paradise’ by Coldplay has two music videos. The official Coldplay video was directed by Mat Whitecross and Shynola directed his own version for the song. Two short films in their own worlds. Both equally engaging stories.
Coldplay were having issues with the original video since it was horrifically behind scheduled and in the end it was pulled completely, so an emergency music video was in order. Mat Whitecross, the man who sprang into action when called upon by Chris Martin to help make a music video in no time at all. There’s an interview on Coldplay’s website with Mr. Whitecross and this music video was all very last minute, proving the best ideas come to you. The whole concept was thought up by Chris and with a small time frame and minimum resources managed to pull off a beautiful and endearing piece of work.
I get goosebumps when I watch this. Everyone wants to escape and hang out with their mates once in a while. Which brings us to video deux! (Remember the video that was pulled? Well this is NOT it.)
Directed by Shynola, it is once again beautiful but by far the grittiest of Coldplay’s music videos. Superbly played by the young cast. It’s storytelling at it’s best. You can take the song away and you will be still be absorbed into the story. You are doing us filmmakers proud Shynola! Doing us proud!
There is a making of of this video. YES! Massive fan of ‘making ofs’.
I’ve been sitting here trying to decide which one is my favorite and it’s too difficult! They are brilliant. I can’t take that away from them by awarding one higher honors than the other. It’s borderline heartbreaking.
